Halloween TV Episodes (Part III)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

So…I dropped the ball on these posts. I got a horrible head cold last week, and was fuzzy and stuffed up for several days, and couldn’t concentrate on anything at all, even watching wonderful Halloween TV. I’ll post what I wrote before I got sick, and then I guess we’ll carry on with these next year! But don’t worry, I’m hoping to do more TV episodes at Thanksgiving.

What did I watch today? FX’s marathon of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes, and then The Shining. Pretty excellent Halloween viewing.

I’ve noticed that lots of lists of Halloween episodes include episodes that are just spooky, but not necessarily Halloween themed. This makes sense, of course – after all, horror movies are very popular this time of year (although not exactly my cup of tea). The ones in particular that jumped out at me were Futurama’s The Honking (trust me, I wish Futurama had a Halloween episode, since it’s one of my very favorite shows), Hey Arnold!’s The Haunted Train (which I remember very vaguely, but think I enjoyed), and The X-Files’ Home (which is creepy as heck and disturbed me just as much during my X-Files rewatch as it did when I was 11). I’m undecided about including these sorts of episodes, but we’ll see!

For now, back to the episodes!

Halloween TV Episodes (Part II)

Nickelodeon edition!

I remember when Doug premiered. I remember watching the commercials leading up to this show, a cartoon about a very average-looking boy, and wondering what the heck it would be about. I was 6, about to turn 7, when it first aired and I remember watching the very first episode. I rewatched the first two seasons about three years ago and was surprised at how well they held up. Rugrats was another favorite that I enjoyed rewatching a few years back, and found it interesting how I paid much more attention to what was happening with the grownups this time around.

Doug and Rugrats will always have a special place in my heart, along with other Nicktoons that I loved over the years – Hey Arnold, Rocko’s Modern Life, and The Angry Beavers, to name a few.

Halloween TV Episodes (Part I)

Last year on Halloween, I found myself home alone with nothing to do, and Hocus Pocus not on TV (really, I should own a copy of that movie). While casting about for something entertaining to do, I decided to see if some of my favorite television shows had Halloween episodes (watching Christmas episodes of TV shows is something I’ve done for several years, but that’s a story for another time). Unsurprisingly, lots of shows have holiday episodes! Wikipedia even has lists:

Halloween

Thanksgiving

Christmas

I went through and picked a few episodes that were available on Netflix, and the kittens and I settled onto the couch to watch. It was a lot of fun! However, some of the “Halloween episodes” didn’t have a whole lot to do with Halloween, or it was a very minor aspect of the episode. So, being the organizational weirdo that I am, I made a list of all the Halloween episodes from all the shows I like, and decided to go through them and choose a list of favorites. It’s a long list, so I won’t be getting through them all any time soon.

I’m hoping to watch a few episodes every day for the next week, and I’ll throw some thoughts on the episodes up here. Unfortunately, my selections will mostly be limited to what’s available on Netflix or what I own, which is too bad because there are a lot of great shows I don’t have access to right now.
